Turtle rehabilitation project

The turtle rehabilitation project at the Fujairah Research Center, in cooperation with the Fujairah Environment Authority and the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing sea turtles that are found injured along the coast of Fujairah. The project also seeks to educate the local community on their first response when encountering a sick turtle. Once these turtles are rescued, they will be initially rehabilitated and sent to the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Center where they will receive specialized care to help them recover and regain their strength. In collaboration with the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Programme, we will use the latest satellite tracking technology to monitor the migration patterns and habitats of the released turtles. This data will provide valuable insights into the behavior and ecology of sea turtles, allowing us to develop effective conservation strategies on a broader scale. The 800TURTLE rescue line has been put into service to rescue sick or injured sea turtles in Fujairah. Several posters were created and target organizations along the coast were identified and labeled for turtle awareness as a first response. Moza the turtle, was found injured at Fairmont Beach Resort, Dibba Al Fujairah, on 05/14/2022. She was sent to the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Center, and after 33 days of treatment, a satellite tracking tag was placed on her and released into the Jumeirah Sea to monitor her movement.
